Yellow House Foundation School
My vision of an open, play-based school took root after reading this book called Totto Chan - The Little girl at the window written by Tetsuko Kuroyanagi. This book was given to me by my sister-in-law and friend Ubaldine when my children were young. This school is my homage to her memory and all the ideas and activities which I wish my children had experienced in their formative years.
The methodology of our teaching is influenced by the Reggio Emilia and Waldorf way of education. At Yellow House Preschool and Afterschool, we follow a green approach and are very serious about recycling and living in harmony with nature. All the indoor and garden furniture is made of recycled material and we grow a lot of our vegetables and fruits in-house in an organic manner. We have a 5.2 KVA solar plant on our roof and all our electricity needs are met by solar energy.
Our focus is on free play and physical activities for children. We have tried to build an atmosphere that is homelike and friendly with different types of areas to explore, play and learn. There are outdoor garden areas, playhouses, pretend play areas, bright classrooms, an in-house kitchen and dining area, 2000 sqft covered terrace with grass mat for multi-purpose use.
Our Mission
Our mission is to change the way education is delivered at the foundational level. In the approach we formulated, the teaching will constitute more activities and less theory to inculcate the habit of curiosity in children, stress on the willingness to experiment and to build a solid foundation using which students can grow personally.
Our Philosophy
Children are born naturalists; they explore the world with all their senses. Yellow House Preschool provides a way in which children get to know the world around them and foster in them a sense of wonder.
Our History
We opened our door in the year 2016 to offer daycare and activities and by 2017, we had started the preschool. We have a diverse mix of students who are the local residents and the children of the floating IT crowd who stay in Newtown. We celebrate all festivals with equal gusto, cultural integration is what we stress on. Our Christmas event is our highlight and we host an end-of-year party (EYP) where the parents and grandparents are also invited to share in the celebrations.
Testimonials
Yellow House Play School is the best school that we have come across. We have experienced the difference almost every single day - my kid would have shared with me hundreds of happy memories back from the school. The curriculum is unique blended with classroom and outdoor teaching techniques which always excites kids. The care and personal attention to each kid is exceptionally good. The backyard gardens, fruit trees, vegetable crops, kiddo gym etc are some of the kids favourite spots.
The school has great infrastructure and feels very homely. I have never seen so many play areas and outdoor activity centers in any other school. The kids seem to love coming to school. I did a student teaching program there.
The play area of the school is what made us choose the school. Yellow House uses different techniques to teach kids. Emphasis is on the overall development of the child. Kids are not overburdened with writing etc. Kids enjoy coming to school and they grow at their own pace. An apt environment for growing kids. Thank you Sharbani Mam. - Srividya Ramakanthan
